The wonderful Christmas classic “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” performed by Andy Williams has always been a popular Christmas song. It was written in triple time in 1963 by Edward Pola and George Wyle. However It never reached Billboard’s regular Hot 100 song charts until 2017 following the release of Comedian/Song Writer Dana Kamide’s pro Trump Christmas Parody. Kamide’s YouTube release, entitled, It’s the Most Wonderful Time in 8 Years received over 1 million views on day one and subsequently over 50 million more views in the 4 weeks to come. It continues to receive millions of views each year.
Kamide was inspired to create the parody after hearing so many of his colleagues express so much jubilation following the Trump Presidential election win. Many kept telling Kamide that waking up a day after the election was like waking up on Christmas morning! This inspired the comedian/songwriter to immediately pen the parody. Kamide wrote all the lyrics, performed the vocals and other instruments and created the video all himself in lass than 5 days
The original holiday classic performed by Andy Williams has subsequently moved even farther up the charts after Dana made live Television appearances on Fox New, Fox Business, The Daily Caller, The Blaze and several talk radio shows around the country which all took place over the 2016 Christmas season. Kamide’s parody was featured on more than 178,000 websites and garnered more than 50 million views across all Social Media. Especially after Sean Hannity, Duck Dynasty Actors, and many other celebrities, have continued to share the smash hit parody Even Andy William’s wife Debbie, has shared it out to her friends as her “new Favorite Christmas song”
The original Andy Williams hit was recorded and released on his first Christmas album, The Andy Williams Christmas Album. However, the song was not released as a promotional single by Williams’ record label (Columbia Records) that year, as they instead opted to promote his cover of “White Christmas” as the official promo single from the album.
In the issue of Billboard magazine dated November 28, 2009, the list of the “Top 10 Holiday Songs (Since 2001)” places the Williams recording of “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” at No. 5. 2001 also marked the first year in which the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) started compiling data regarding the radio airplay of holiday songs, and although the Williams classic started out at No. 25 of twenty-five songs that were ranked that year, it gained steam over the next ten years, reaching No. 18 in 2002, No. 13 in 2003, and eventually getting to No. 4 in 2010.
It was December 2017 when Andy Williams’ version of the song entered the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in history, and reached number 32. In December 2018, it reached a peak of number 13. Dana Kamide had included a link to purchase and download William’s original Christmas classic on all his parody postings on YouTube, FaceBook and Twitter.
